Årsrapport 2025The Alliance of Democracies Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 by Anders Fogh Rasmussen,the former NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Denmark. The vision of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation is to become the world’s leading “megaphone” for the causeof democracy. The Foundation is dedicated to the advancement of democracy and free markets across the globe. In 2025, the Alliance’s program structure consisted of three core initiatives: The Copenhagen Democracy Summit, Advancing Business and Technology for Freedom and Democracy, and Creating an Alliance of Democracies.
Development in activities and financesCopenhagen Democracy Summit 2025On 13-14th May 2025 we hosted the eight edition of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit. The summit hosted 700 high-level guests from around 70 countries including leaders from the political, business and technology sectors, alongside democracy activists, In addition, the summit was streamed to an online audience and received 3200 media mentions globally as well as approximately 1.6 million impressions on social media. The Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2025 hosted prominent speakers, including Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative, Tsai Ing-wen, former Taiwan President, Andrej Plenkovic, Croatian Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and David Cameron, former British Prime Ministers. On Europe’s defense, a report was launched by former Anders Fogh Rasmussen urging allies to surge defence spending. Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed the report on stage with former Prime Minister David Cameron andAdmiral Rob Bauer. On Ukraine’s defense, Andrii Yermak, then-Chief of Staff to President Zelenskyy joined virtually to discuss Cease-fire and Security Guarantees for Ukraine. Axel Springer Freedom Foundation presented its Award for Courage to imprisoned pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai, which his son Sebastien Lai accepted on his behalf.
